Here is another awesome (easy!!) craft that you can make to give as a gift – DIY Fabric Picture Tiles! With Mother’s Day around the corner, this would be the perfect gift for Mom (and Grandma!) to display photos of the family. I don’t know a Mom or Grandma around that doesn’t enjoy doing that!
Oh, and buy some fabric that you like too because when you see how cute they come out, you are going to want to make one for yourself, also 😉 Both of my boys liked mine so much that I made one for each of them (sport ball fabric, of course)!
Here are the supplies you will need:
Cork Tiles (12″ x 12″) *Make sure the cork is at least 1/2″ thick. If you get the 1/4″ thick tiles, you can glue two together with Aleene’s Tacky Glue and that works just as well.*
Fabric of your choice (It must be at least big enough to fit over the 12″ x 12″ cork tile by a few inches on all sides)
Ribbon
Stapler (one that can be opened flat)
-Cut batting the size of the cork tile.
-Place batting on top of the cork tile. Drape the fabric over the batting and center it on the tile. Gently flip over the cork tile.
-Fold one corner of the fabric over one corner of the tile and staple it. Pull the fabric over the diagonal corner tautly, and staple it.
-Repeat the previous step on the other set of corners.
-Pull the fabric on the left side of the tile tautly and staple along the edge in the middle of the side. Pull the fabric on the right side of the tile tautly and staple along the edge in the middle of the side.
-Repeat the previous step with the top and bottom sides.
-Continue pulling and stapling the sides until you have one staple on each corner and 3 additional staples along each edge.
-Trim excess fabric on the back of the tile. Adjust the staples if necessary. Flip the tile over.
-Cut six (6) pieces of ribbon. Two (2) pieces that are 21″ each and four (4) pieces that are 13″ each.
-Create a pattern with the ribbon that looks like the picture below.
-Begin by draping the first piece of ribbon from one corner to its diagonal. Use a pushpin to secure one end and staple both ends on the back. Drape the other piece across the opposite set of corners and staple the ends on the back.
-Drape the intermediary pieces. Staple all ends on the back.
-Place a colored pushpin where the ribbons cross in the center to make the tile decorative (and to help hold the pictures in place when you put them on). Trim any excess ribbon on the back of the tile.
Here are some examples of boards that I have made. Seriously, how cute are these?!
